I recently had the privilege of running 106 km over three days through the beautiful, pristine, Karkloof Valley in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Three Cranes Trail race takes you through indigenous forests, up steep mountain sides, down slippery other sides and across grass-green savannah with royal blue lakes. It is the only area in Africa where the Blue, Crowned and Wattled Crane co-exist in one eco-system. Fantastic. A tidy sum was raised for Crane Conservation and for the anti-fracking lobby to prevent such from proceeding in the Karkloof.
But now it is Community Veterinary Clinic’s turn. Help me raise much needed funds to enable the South African Veterinary Association to continue doing its good work in the communities. They are making a huge difference in the lives of animals that are not otherwise exposed to veterinary care.
From 13 - 17 June 2016, I will again be running through the Richtersveld, South Africa’s best kept scenic secret, in the North West corner of the country. However, this time the distance has been increased to 200 km and it is pioneering a transfrontier run to include two of the five days in Namibia. Runners will traverse the Fish River Canyon from the southern side to finish at Ai-Ais warm water springs.
The veterinary profession has donated very generously to the CVC on my previous fundraising trail running events. Our fundraising total stands at R85,000,00.
Let’s see if we can surpass the R100,000,00 mark with the Richtersveld Wildrun.
